UM-Dearborn Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor

2020 has been a year of many things. A reality check, for one. In January, I began as UM-Dearborn’s provost but all too quickly, like everyone else, found myself operating in an entirely new world. A world that, paradoxically, both forced us to take a pause and to work tirelessly to find a way forward for our campus. At UM-Dearborn, all this made us take stock of what’s really important.

Through everything, our top priority stays the same: to provide students with a life-changing Michigan degree. We are ensuring that our students can learn in many ways, wherever, whenever and however they can during a time like this. The commitment of our faculty, staff, alumni, and donors like you steadfastly continue to give our students a clear way forward.

UM-Dearborn students are deeply committed to learning and grateful for every single opportunity. With each new challenge, they’ve adapted. They understand the value of a degree and are willing to put in the hard work no matter what. It may not be a normal time in their academic careers, but they’re learning to think on their feet. A pandemic hasn’t stopped students, and our support for them can’t stop either.

It’s been heartening to see our campus come together. Faculty had to change their courses from on-site to remote learning in a matter of days last spring. They prepared for a hybrid fall semester with high impact practices and tremendous support from the Hub for Teaching and Learning. Better known simply as the “The Hub”, it has not only made the transition to online teaching easier, but it has helped build a rich community of practice among faculty. The connections and teaching practices that develop will be invaluable to our students long after this pandemic is over. This is just another example of how UM-Dearborn comes together to move forward.

Times are tough, but there is always a way through, even if that means we have to work harder to get there. Your donation can make an immediate impact. Help the student who lost their job. Help faculty continue to enhance the remote learning environment for our students. Most importantly, join me and open the door to opportunity for UM-Dearborn students. Please make your gift today.

Thank you and Go Blue!
