Thank you for your support of the College of Arts & Sciences. Many of the opportunities we provide for our students would not be possible without donors like you! I write to you to share one student’s story in the hope that you will be inspired and continue to assist our students by making a gift today.

Throughout the pandemic, we have seen people worldwide step up to help their communities, and the University of Michigan-Flint campus was no exception. Freshman Biology major Christina Zerka saw vaccine misinformation and hesitancy running rampant among her peers on social media and recognized the existing messages regarding the vaccine were not reaching her age demographic. She combined her experience as a UM-Flint Entrepreneurs Society member and her passion for the sciences to create a campaign to encourage vaccination. Read more about it here.

“Save Summer 2021” was a viral video campaign that included an interactive “Shoot Your Shot” challenge. College students from across the country took part in the challenge by posting their experiences while getting the vaccine and nominating others to do the same. Christina’s campaign used information from highly regarded sources, such as the CDC, to promote vaccinations among young people. Her message was simple: “Save Summer” and get back to events and outings that mattered to her age group.

Christina’s achievement is one of the countless examples of how our students continue to embody the College of Arts & Sciences’ mission: to effect positive change locally and globally. Our students continue to impress us with their desire to contribute to global solutions and be a part of the positive narrative. Your gift makes it possible for them to think big and turn their ideas into action. Please continue your support of our college and students by giving to one of the funds listed.

Sincerely,
