2020 is a historic year for the University of Michigan-Flint.

Against the backdrop of the challenge of the ongoing pandemic, great strides were made at UM-Flint that will benefit students for years to come. We launched a new College of Innovation and Technology that will open in Fall 2021. We expanded our support services for students, adding academic advisors that will positively impact graduation rates. A new Urban Institute for Racial, Economic, and Environmental Justice, along with a strategic action plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives reaffirms our commitment to these important ideals. Each of these efforts was made in the best interests of our students and our community.

This progress at UM-Flint is not possible without your help. When the pandemic took hold, it was donors like you who stepped up to support our students, creating a fund to assist those in need. Your ongoing contributions to scholarship funds help our students to not just enroll at UM-Flint, but it helps them to persist through to graduation. You play a key role in providing some of the resources necessary to respond to challenges, adapt to changes, and capitalize on opportunities. Thank you for all you have done.

We need your help to keep this momentum going. In that spirit, I am asking once again for you to support the students of UM-Flint in these critical areas:

  • The UM-Flint Alumni Scholarship for Excellence provides resources that directly assist student tuition.
  • The Chancellor’s Innovation and the Flint Provost Initiatives funds provide the ability to address campus-wide opportunities.
  • The UM-Flint Student Affairs Opportunity Fund helps extra-curricular activities to continue and support services that enhance the student experience.

While the funds I have identified above are a priority, I certainly understand your commitment to campus may lie with a specific school, college, or program. Therefore we have included an option for you to choose the program(s) that matter the most to you.

As we approach the end of this year and the start of 2021, I am proud of our campus. By continuing to provide a quality education, enhancing the faculty’s ability to conduct meaningful research and service, and laying a strong foundation for the day our students return to campus, we have positioned our university to be stronger for decades to come. Please join me in fulfilling these goals, and those yet to come, by making your gift of support today.

Thank you, and Go Blue!

Sincerely,

Deba Dutta, Ph.D.
