Winter 2021 marks the third consecutive semester at the University of Michigan affected by COVID-19, and the coming months will surely present new and unforeseen challenges that we can overcome with your support. If you are in a position to give, please donate to Michigan today.

This past year has produced immense hardship for U-M and the communities we serve, but it has also created opportunities for the Michigan family to show our true colors. Time and again, I have found courage in the resilience of our students, faculty, and staff. Through the most difficult of circumstances, they continue teaching, creating, investigating new ideas, and caring for patients with a passion unrivaled by any university in the country. And in true Michigan spirit, donors like you have supported them every step of the way.

COVID-19 has reminded us of the value of being innovative in our education and research. In response to the pandemic, U-M has expanded testing capacity and contact tracing, revamped facility operations to increase safety, enhanced virtual learning, and much more to create the best possible Michigan experience. Yet, we also know that we have to continue being nimble in this ever-changing landscape. Each week we are discovering more about the virus and how to better meet the needs of our university community. Your giving provides us with the resources to make informed decisions and swiftly respond to new developments as they arise.

We have overcome many obstacles this year, but there are still critical needs in our health system and across our three campuses. University researchers, for example, are leading the charge against COVID-19, and mobilizing these discoveries for real-world impact requires substantial funding. Our students also require additional support right now, and we are working hard to increase financial aid and emergency funds for those who may be facing unanticipated expenses related to the virus. Your generosity ensures the U-M experience is accessible for students from all backgrounds.

The cost of providing a Michigan-grade education while safely navigating challenges like COVID-19 is substantial. Whether you give once per year or every month, support from alumni and friends ensures U-M maintains positive energy moving forward. I ask you to give and partner with us in forging a brighter future for Michigan and for our students.

Sincerely,

P.S. Michigan is strongest when we all come together. There is truly no community I would rather be a part of on this journey. Please join us in giving today.
