Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
University of Michigan

In more than a decade as a Michigan faculty member, I have been continually impressed by the resiliency of our faculty and students and by their eagerness to do whatever they can to contribute to the world. I know, from my tenure as dean of the Ford School of Public Policy, that these qualities are also hallmarks of our alumni and friends. Your interest and support have been important throughout the university’s history. Today, the world faces unprecedented challenges. At this critical moment, I ask that you continue to show your support and help us respond to these challenges by making a gift to the university.

Michigan is proud to be a public university. We recognize that with this status we have a special responsibility to serve society. Every year our campus is brimming with activity as outstanding faculty and students work side-by-side to explore, analyze, and address challenges facing society, through projects as varied as election security and chronic disease management. You help fuel this collaborative culture. Financial donations bolster funding across the university so that we have programmatic resources to create boldly and invent solutions for the world’s most perplexing challenges.

When the coronavirus arrived in the state of Michigan, U-M relied on teamwork to mobilize timely response efforts. Researchers channeled their expertise to tackle virus-related challenges, both immediate and longer-term. Faculty revised their courses and adjusted their teaching style to deliver high-quality education online. Students embraced these changes with tenacity and enthusiasm. At the front lines, faculty and staff in medicine, public health, and other fields worked around the clock to provide patient care, develop creative solutions to concerns such as the need for personal protective equipment, and lay the groundwork for understanding and addressing COVID-19 going forward. Donor generosity helped make all of this possible.

As the university continues navigating the long-term effects of the virus, a strong philanthropic network is more important than ever. There are still myriad needs across Michigan’s health system and on campus, especially for our students who, on the heels of a global pandemic, are facing new and unforeseen financial barriers to a Michigan education. As we focus on teaching and research that serves society, I ask that you join our efforts by making a gift to the university.

Whether you give once per year or every month, your support helps to ensure that U-M is an institution of excellence and educational opportunity.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Collins
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
